Day 5 – Cholllerford to Heddon-on-the-Wall

Leaving Chollerford and crossing the Tyne at the start of day 5

We’ll what a day, I feel good about it now but there’s been many times through the day when I could have given up. Firstly, the distance turned out to be 17.8 miles rather than 15, we needed to navigate a reasonably steep climb out of the Tyne valley for some 2 miles first thing this morning, it rained often and the paths we just soft sticky mud. Safe to say that the wall path has delivered three broken men this evening.

The photos above show the typical scenery encountered throughout todays walk. Just rolling countryside for mile after mile, all very beautiful of course but not as stunning as other sections.

We stopped for an early lunch at Errington Coffee House which is really nice, it’s a converted pub and the interior was really pretty. At the time we were being drenched by a downpour so this was a very pleasing site. If you’re ever here, John tells me the Vegetable soup is amazing!

We stopped at the Robin Hood Inn in Wallhouses for a brief rest and a (soft) drink mid afternoon. It was a lovely traditional pub and honestly, I could have stayed here all afternoon.

From this point we had a further 5 miles to walk which was a slog, all three of us arrived at our accommodation for the evening worse for wear.

Tomorrow is our final day, we will finally arrive at Wallsend …
